Presidential Contender: John Edwards

This weeks presidential profile is on former Democratic North Carolina Senator, John Edwards. Edwards is of course most famous for coming in second to John Kerry in the 2004 Democratic Primary, and being the Vice Presidential candidate last election. Before entering politics Edwards was a personal injury trial lawyer, and is a multi-millionaire.

Issues:

Health Care: Require businesses to help pay for employees health care, make health insurance mandatory.

Iraq: against

Immigration: supports work visas, expand legal immigration

Energy: invest more in renewable energy sources

Abortion: pro-choice

-note: Not a lot of information on Edwards policy stances is available

At the moment Edwards is in third place, but is well behind Clinton and Obama. I have been surprised at how much of his support from 04 has remained, even after a lack-luster performance as running mate, and the bitterness in general that democrats feel from the last election. In the primaries I will not support him, since he was only a one-term senator, who would be four years removed from power, and had an overall unimpressive term in the Senate. In the general I may take a serious look at McCain if he's the nominee, but I can't see myself voting for any of the other Republican front runners over Edwards.
