2007 Louisiana Predictions

Louisiana is one of the three states that will be holding their gubernatorial elections in 2007. In Louisiana a candidate must get 50% of the vote in order to get elected, so if no candidate receives 50% the top two candidates will advance to a second round of voting.
Likely the two candidates who will advance to the second round are incumbent Democratic governor Kathleen Blanco, and the main Republican candidate Congressman Bobby Jindal. Currently Blanco suffers from a relatively low approval rating, and has suffered from her action surrounding Hurricane Katrina. Jindal ran for governor in the last election, and as a relative unknown lost to Blanco by only four points. I predict that Jindal will finish first in the first round with 47-49 percent, and will then go on to a fairly comfortable win over Blanco in the second round.

2007 Elections Predictions Kentucky

Even though 2007 is an off year there are still gubernatorial elections in Kentucky, Louisiana, and Mississippi.
Kentucky
The incumbent Governor, Ernie Fletcher has announced that he will seek re-election, but his 03 running mate Steve Pence has decided not to run again, so Robbie Rudolph will be Fletcher’s new running mate. Fletcher seems to be quite venerable, since he currently enjoys a near national low 30% approval rating, so the Democrats see opportunity in picking up another governor's seat. There is also a possibility thanks to Fletcher’s very low ratings, that he could be unseated in the primaries, possibly by ousted US Rep. Northrup, US Rep Harold Rogers, Lt. Governor Steve Pence, or President of the Kentucky Senate David Williams.
The presumptive favorite for the Democratic nomination was US Rep. Ben Chandler, who has announced that he is not running. The top possible candidates remaining for the Democrats are, Ex-Lt.Governor Steve Henry, Speaker of the Kentucky House Jody Richards, and attorney Jack Conway.
I predict that Fletcher will get the GOP's nomination in a surprisingly hard fought primary, and Jody Richards emerges from a very crowded Democratic primary. In the general election the Democrats will eventually unite behind Richards, to win the Governorship by a tight margin.
